• Study description:
  In a pilot cross-sectional study, the Shared Decision Making 9-Item Questionnaire (SDM9) will be administered to 60 patients suffering from surgical disorders and 60 suffering from non-surgical disorders. Patients will be recruited from 4 acute wards and outpatient departments. The primary outcome will be the differential effect of the type of disease (surgical versus non-surgical on the shared decision making as measured by the SDM9 score. Secondary outcomes will be the effects of patients' demographic, clinical variables and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, as well as physicians' variables on the SDM9 score. Finally the relationship of patients' satisfaction with SDM will also be investigated.
