The Department of Statistics, Computer Science, Applications “Giuseppe Parenti” of the University of Florence promotes research, teaching and training activities, as well as knowledge transfer and innovation, while preserving and strengthening the universal and cross-disciplinary nature of the fields and professions it represents.

DiSIA aims to serve as a reference point and a hub within the University for all areas related to the development of quantitative methods and to the acquisition, processing and analysis of data, however heterogeneous they may be. Its goal is to extract the information embedded in data and transform it into knowledge that can be made available to society.

Its professors and researchers belong to a broad range of scientific-disciplinary fields that share a common cultural and scientific approach, in which attention to data and to the information they contain is combined with a strong interest in applied and experimental domains, in line with specific scientific expertise and sensitivities.

These fields include Computer Science, Medical Statistics, Econometrics, Commodity Sciences, Statistics, Economic Statistics, Demography and Social Statistics.

DiSIA offers its expertise in support of teaching and training activities across several Schools of the University, with the aim of preparing professionals able to meet the growing demand for skills in information processing and data analysis, while also fostering the necessary awareness of the challenges arising in different fields of application.

National and international research networks play a significant role in the Department’s activities and have long represented a distinctive dimension of its scientific work.
