INFARMED, I.P. is a Government agency accountable to the Health Ministry that evaluates, authorises, regulates and controls human medicines as well as health products, namely, medical devices and cosmetics for the protection of Public Health.
In particular, Infarmed's remit includes:
- Ensuring the quality, safety, efficacy and cost-effectiveness of medicinal products for human use and health products;
- Health technology assessment and negotiation of medicines and medical devices;
- Monitoring the consumption and use of medicines for human use and health products;
- To promote and support, in liaison with universities and other national or foreign research and development institutions, study and research in the fields of pharmaceutical science and technology, biotechnology, pharmacology, pharmacoeconomics and pharmacoepidemiology.
