The Antwerp University Hospital (UZA) guarantees top quality healthcare and a wide range of specialised treatments. UZA contributes actively to improvement of health care through scientific research. It is internationally recognized as a top-level academic institute and possesses the full infrastructure to facilitate clinical research efforts.
As an accredited level-1 trauma center, UZA can offer specialised trauma care 24 hours a day. There are resuscitation rooms, an immediate supply of blood products and a reserved operating room for emergencies.
UZA counts 39 highly specialized medical departments and has 573 recognized hospital beds in 25 different nursing units. Yearly it counts around 30.000 in-hospital patients, over 50.000 day-clinic patients and more than 550.000 patients visiting the outpatient clinic.
It is part of an important loco-regional hospital network with 4 other partners located across 9 sites. This intensive collaboration forms an umbrella for knowledge sharing to bring high-quality and value-driven care to the patient.

Research infrastructure
UZA has a well-established Clinical Trial Center, which is the central accommodation for all translational and clinical research and offers support for the entire R&D process. Every year, over 500 clinical studies are registered in the electronic application (EDGE) system of UZA.
