Institution description
The School of Health Sciences within the Waterford Institute of Technology is an active pharmacovigilance and pharmacoepidemiological research unit with in house expertise including in quantitative,qualitative and mixed research methods,statistical and qualitative computer assisted data analysis,research ethics,and post graduate research training. It has established links to the Irish National Hospital In-patient database (HIPE),EMDCCA,South African Medical Research Council and UNODC Vienna,as well as national medical,pharmacy and substance misuse organisations with the aim of monitoring drug use in the community setting. It is lead coordinating organization for an FP7 Marie Curie IAPP grant valued at €2.04 million,which investigates codeine from a variety of data sources. The School of Health Sciences has a special interest in the monitoring of OTC,prescribed pain medication and new prescribed and illicit psychoactive drugs.
