The Research Centre on Public Health (CESP) of the University of Milano-Bicocca supports and encourages research aimed at improving the health and well-being of communities through the study of pathological phenomena and disease determinants, the identification and measurement of risk factors, the planning and implementation of prevention interventions, the evaluation of the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions as well as their sustainability.
In particular, the Center aims to:
• promote and encourage the development of studies and research in the field of public health
• apply the knowledge and tools of epidemiology and biostatistics to public health for the study of the natural history of diseases, of actions aimed at hindering their onset and spread and improving their prognosis and the evaluation of health organizations
• contribute to the knowledge and dissemination of the most modern preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic guidelines in the study of the interactions between environment, disease, including social, demographic, and psychological factors
• promote research in pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacovigilance to support decision-making process in the benefit-risk and cost-effectiveness evaluation of medicines
• promote research in Health technology Assessment (HTA) and its application in order to support decision-making processes in the evaluation and implementation of health services and interventions.
Currently, >15 researchers operate within CESP, with exhaustive background and expertise in Medicine, Pharmacy, Regulatory Sciences, Biotechnology, Chemistry, (Pharmaco-)Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Medical Informatics. Members of CESP are involved in several pharmacoepidemiological and pharmacovigilance pieces of research, including retrospective and prospective registries, retrospective safety studies based on administrative databases, as well as prospective post-authorization safety studies.
