“Diseases of heart and blood vessels in adults and children” (Decree of the Ministry of Health, 6th March, 2006). IRCCS hospitals represent the excellence of the Italian Healthcare System in the biomedical and clinical research field.  Our principal aims are to find multidisciplinary taskforce cooperation, exchange data and share knowledge  in order to create, improve and connect to national and international networks. Nowadays, the hospital ranks among Italy’s main cardiosurgery authorities and it represents a referral centre for emergency admissions for cardiovascular surgery with more than 1500 cardiosurgery interventions per year. One of the centrepieces of our institute is the Congenital Heart Disease Department, which is currently under the assessment process of the European Reference Networks (ERN) for the inclusion in the ERN GUARD Heart affiliation. Finally, IRCCS Policlinico San Donato boasts the BIOCOR biobank, partner of the Italian Cardiovascular IRCCS Hospital Network and partner of the “COVIRNA – A diagnostic test to improve surveillance and care of COVID-19 patients” project funded by the H2020-SC1-PHE-CORONAVIRUS-2020 call.
