The Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) is the leading technical and scientific public body of the Italian National Health Service. Its activities include research,control,training and consultation in the interest of public health protection. The organization of the technical and scientific operational area of the Italian National Institute of Health (ISS) is divided into 6 Departments,16 National centres,2 Reference centres and 5 Technical-scientific services. With regard to human medicines,the following Departments/Centers are involved: Infectious,Parasitic and Immune-Mediated Diseases,Cell Biology and Neurosciences,Center for Immunobiologicals Research and Evaluation,National Blood Centre,National Centre for Drug Research and Evaluation. The latter Centre includes the Pharmacoepidemiology Unit.
