Institution description
Since 2015, the Pharmacoepidemiology Research Group (led by Prof. Francesco Barone-Adesi) has been involved in the conduction of Real-World studies, using administrative databases of the Piedmont region (4 million inhabitants), those of other Italian regions, and data from different countries. Research areas include Drug Utilization Research (time-trends of potentially inappropriate prescribing and drug-drug Interactions among elderly outpatients; patterns of utilization of incretin-based medicines; psychoactive substance consumption after the disasters), Safety studies (bDMARDs and infections; antidepressants and diabetes; antitumor treatment and SARS-CoV-2 infection; methimazole and acute pancreatitis; anticholinergic burden and fractures), evaluation of effectiveness (venetoclax in AML, DPP4 Inhibitors, vaccines), methodological studies (development of algorithms to identify patients with rare diseases using claims databases; use of state sequence analysis in pharmacoepidemiology), and the investigation of the interactions between drugs, environment and health.
